Good to know
Juventus have a slim first-leg advantage in Lisbon, but make no mistake this quarter is far from over. Sporting dominated the first half in Turin, sending Juventus back and forcing them to play on the counter-attack, something they don’t seem used to.
Although the Italians ended up winning 1-0 thanks to a close-range goal from defender Federico Gatti 17 minutes from time, without a superb double save in added time from substitute goalkeeper Mattia Perin, and two correct saves in the first half of the one he replaced, Wojciech Szczęsny, Sporting might have been at least level before the second leg.
In the end, despite Sporting’s impressive display, Max Allegri’s side secured their fourth successive UEFA Europa League victory without conceding a single goal.

The words of the coaches
Massimiliano Allegri, Juventus
We made some mistakes, the boys can improve, especially on the last pass. We played better in the second half with three midfielders, which gave us more width. Sporting pressed hard and lost intensity as the game went on, but it was a good performance, it was not easy to win without conceding.
Ruben Amorim, Sporting CP
We created several chances, but we didn’t score. That kind of sums up our form, but the good thing is that we still have a chance at home. We have to be very smart to circumvent the situation.
