Sporting Charleroi supporters won their case. Furious that the trip to Tessenderlo in the Belgian Cup was in a combi-car, they moved heaven and earth, and were able to count on the help of the president of Thes Sport.
The Storm Ultras, the main ultra group of Sporting Charleroi, were furious when last September, the town and the police of Tessenderlo decided on an obligation to travel by combi-car for Carole supporters who would like to attend Thes Sport – RCSC, Tuesday 10/31. A “stupid” rule, “without any logic”, denounced the Ultra Carolos, and which complicated an already difficult trip on a Tuesday evening.
The Storm then led a small insurrection, asking all the Carolingian supporters who wished to go to Tessenderlo, calmly, of course, but with their own means – and even, if necessary, without tickets. “It is abnormal that the supporter is taken hostage by such a decision without head or tail less than 14 days before a meeting that we are already impatiently awaiting,” we read.
The solidarity of Thes Sport
It is here neither Sporting Charleroi (thanked for its communication), nor the Thes Sport club which were singled out. Better: it is ultimately from the Nationale 1 club that the solution will come. More precisely from its president, Wendy De Wit. The man will indeed contact the Storm Ultras on his own initiative.
“For us, it’s a historic match, I want to help your supporters,” he said. “I have a meeting with the police and will do anything to help you.” This is in fact the first time that Thes Sport, which has long dominated Nationale 1 but without ever seeking to obtain the license to move up to the Pro League, will face a D1A team in an official match.
Very quickly, thanks to this active collaboration and goodwill from Wendy De Wit, a solution will be found. “Victory”, proclaim the Storm Ultras this week: the combi-car obligation is lifted, those who wish can go to Tessenderlo by car. The president of Thes Sport goes even further, participating in the setting up of shuttles… and offering a barrel to Carole supporters!
“We really had a guy on the phone who loved football, the atmosphere, and for whom our coming constitutes a first in the history of their club. In 2023 it becomes very – too – rare. A lesson for all clubs first division”, rejoice the Ultras via their Facebook page.
A great story, followed by an almost immediate sell-out of the 400 places made available to Zebras supporters. And of course accompanied by a clear message: visitors must be above reproach following such concessions have been made to welcome them. We have no doubt that following such a wonderful gesture from Thes Sport, the two clubs will want to celebrate!
