This Monday, Sporting announced João Pereira as the new coach of the main team.

In a statement to CMVM, the lions also named the technical committee that accompanies the 40-year-old coach.

It is worth mentioning that the only one who moves from Ruben Amorim’s team is Tiago Ferreira. Also noteworthy is the name of Luís Neto, as well as the More football already mentioned, who ended his career as a Sporting player last season and now returns as an assistant.

Although he is not mentioned in the statement, Gonçalo Álvaro also moves from Ruben Amorim’s technical team and becomes a physical trainer.

João Pereira is presented this Monday, at 12pm, in the VIP Hall of the José Alvalade Stadium.

João Pereira Takes the Helm: Sporting’s New Coach Announcement

Well, well, well! This Monday, Sporting made the audacious choice of announcing João Pereira as the new head coach of their main team. And just like that, the football world held its breath… for about five seconds!

In an official statement to the CMVM (which sounds more like a TV channel than a market regulator), the club boasted about its shiny new technical committee, accompanying the 40-year-old Pereira as he embarks on this thrilling journey. One can’t help but wonder, how many of them actually know what they’re doing? Let’s break it down!

The New Technical Committee: Who’s Onboard?

  • Tiago Teixeira (head assistant coach);
  • António Calça e Pina (assistant coach);
  • Luís Neto (technical assistant);
  • José Caldeira (technical assistant responsible for dead balls);
  • Hugo Tecelão (goalkeeper coach);
  • Tiago Ferreira (goalkeeper coach).

What a lineup! It’s like a family reunion of folks who can discuss the finer points of “how to kick a ball” over a Sunday roast. Notably, the only person migrating from the previous coach Ruben Amorim’s team is Tiago Ferreira. But let’s be real—when half your team sounds like they could be part of a cooking show, it’s time to question their football credentials.

Now, about Luís Neto: the man hung up his boots last season after wrapping up a career at Sporting. Apparently, retirement wasn’t quite the cup of tea he expected! Not only does he find himself on the bench, but as an assistant, he gets to share ‘war stories’ with the lads. I can see it now—“Back in my day…” followed by a yawn.

Dead Balls, Goals, and a Physical Trainer

Ah, the joy in the details! José Caldeira being responsible for “dead balls” sounds like the worst job ever—it’s basically training for when things go wrong. And if anyone invites him to a party, he’s that guy who stands in the corner: “You know, I used to be great at dead balls…” Cue the crickets!

And we can’t forget Gonçalo Álvaro, who, despite being mysteriously absent from the announcement (perhaps lost in translation?), is apparently taking on the Herculean task of being a physical trainer. I mean, let’s hope he’s not too good at it; we wouldn’t want the team feeling too fit and sprightly, now would we?

The Grand Presentation

Now let’s talk about the unveiling. João Pereira will grace the VIP Hall of the José Alvalade Stadium at 12pm this Monday. The media will be there, cameras flashing, and he probably won’t even trip up on his way to the podium. But remember, folks, in the world of football, anything can happen—upsets, surprises, and the occasional wardrobe malfunction!

The Statement in Full

So, let’s take a moment for the formalities—that eloquent statement which detailed the coaches like a grocery list:

SPORTING CLUBE DE PORTUGAL – FUTEBOL, SAD (hereinafter also referred to as Sporting SAD), under the terms and for the purposes of complying with the information obligation arising from the provisions of article 17 of Regulation (EU) no. 596/2014, of the European Parliament and the Council on April 16, informs the market about the members of the technical team and respective assistants of Sporting SAD’s main men’s professional football team, who will immediately assume technical command, being made up of:

João Pedro da Silva Esmail Pereira
Tiago Filipe Monteiro Teixeira
José Eduardo da Encarnação Caldeira
Antônio Mascarenhas Cassiano Neves Pants and Pina
Hugo Miguel Tecelão de Sousa Borges
Tiago Alexandre Baptista Ferreira
Luis Carlos Novo Neto

In conclusion, João Pereira has a mountain to climb, and let’s hope he’s packed enough snacks for the journey. Will this merry band of misfits lead Sporting to glory? Time will tell. As they say in football, “It’s not about the destination, but the journey… preferably one involving fewer dead balls and more goals!”

This Monday, Sporting Clube de Portugal officially announced the appointment of João Pereira as the head coach of the senior team, marking a significant shift in the club’s coaching strategy.

In a detailed announcement released to the Comissão do Mercado de Valores Mobiliários (CMVM), the Lisbon-based club also unveiled the technical committee designed to support the 40-year-old Pereira in his new role.

  • Tiago Teixeira (head assistant coach);
  • António Calça e Pina (assistant coach);
  • Luís Neto (technical assistant);
  • José Caldeira (technical assistant responsible for dead balls);
  • Hugo Tecelão (goalkeeper coach);
  • Tiago Ferreira (goalkeeper coach).

It is noteworthy that out of the previous coaching staff led by Rúben Amorim, only Tiago Ferreira transitions to join Pereira’s team. Additionally, Luís Neto’s inclusion is particularly significant, as he returns to the club after concluding his playing career with Sporting last season, now stepping into an assistant role.

While not explicitly mentioned in the announcement, Gonçalo Álvaro is also transitioning from Amorim’s technical setup and will assume the position of physical trainer.

Fans and media are invited to attend the presentation of João Pereira, which is scheduled for this Monday at 12 PM in the VIP Hall of the iconic José Alvalade Stadium, an event that is eagerly anticipated by the Sporting faithful.
