Judo, athletics, football, and the arts too. From July 28 to August 6, the people of Kinshasa vibrated to the rhythm of the 9th edition of the Games of Francophonie. The event, which takes place every four years, has allowed the DRC to relegate to the background, for a time at least, the conflict that is eating away at the east of the country and the inflation that is hitting consumers’ wallets.

And, according to the government, these Games were also an opportunity to “revitalize the local economy”, and led to the creation of several thousand direct and indirect jobs in construction, hotels, restaurants and tourism. This meeting is only one of the many events organized this year on the continent: beach sports championship and FIFA Club World Cup in Morocco, Rugby Championship in South Africa, world handball in Egypt…
