In a world where a sedentary lifestyle and an unbalanced diet are becoming the rule, sport, or rather regular physical activity, is the best response that can be provided to stay in good health. By triggering specific physiological mechanisms, physical activity can prevent the onset of a certain number of diseases in healthy subjects. Thus, physical activity helps reduce the risk of developing certain cancers, including breast cancer.
But it is less known that sport or physical activity can be the first therapeutic tool in patients suffering from diabetes, obliterating arterial disease of the lower limbs, depression, etc.
It is these different aspects that will be addressed during Prof. JP Benoit, volunteer President of the League once morest Cancer 49. Professor Jean-Pierre Benoit taught Galenic Pharmacy (Formulation Sciences applied to Medicines) at the Faculty of Pharmacy of Angers and directed the INSERM unit U 1066 “ Biomimetic Micro and Nanomedicines” which brought together 70 people. Also a hospital practitioner at Angers University Hospital, he chaired section 80 of the CNU ‘Physico-chemical sciences and engineering applied to health’ and is a corresponding member of the National Academy of Pharmacy.
His research activities consisted of developing strategies for targeting pharmacological molecules to a patient’s diseased tissues. His team worked on the design of nanomedicines or nanomedicines (anti-cancer agents to treat different types of aggressive cancer, such as glioblastoma, lung cancer and pancreatic cancer). Jean-Pierre BENOIT is the signatory of more than 320 international publications and around forty patents. At the same time, he created the Microencapsulation Center in 1992, then Mainelab SA in 1999 and finally, Carlina Technologies in 2010 in the field of nanomedicines. Two awards were given to him during his career:
– in 2010 the “Research Achievement Award” awarded by the FIP (International Pharmaceutical Federation) in New Orleans,
– in 2011, the Grand Prix of the National Academy of Pharmacy (Notoriety Prize) in Paris.
In 2015, he received the insignia of Knight of the Order of the Legion of Honor. He left his position as Unit Director of a laboratory dual-certified by INSERM and CNRS. In 2016, he became volunteer President of the Cancer League of Maine-et-Loire.
