Spontaneous Strike Movement at De Lijn: Demands for Better Conditions and Purchasing Power Bonus

The decision was taken following the spontaneous strike movement which affected the Flemish public transport company De Lijn.

The UBT-FGTB denounces in particular “the impossibility of reaching an agreement on a purchasing power bonus”, the introduction of flexible employment in the sector, the “persistent problem of school transport” or even the possibility of relax driving and rest times for drivers.

“During the sectoral negotiations, it became obvious that employers are reluctant to reward their workers appropriately,” laments the union, describing the purchasing power bonus proposed by the employers of the sector as “totally insufficient and unacceptable”. The president of the UBT-FGTB, Frank Moreels, criticizes in a press release the fact that employers “complain of not finding adequate staff” while “refusing to make the sector more attractive”.

The UBT-FGTB requires a purchasing power bonus of 250 euros for all bus and coach drivers.

“We speak when we can, but act when necessary,” warns the union, which calls on all workers in the sector to stop work “from Friday” and to participate in strike pickets.
