The leadership dispute in the SPÖ between party leader Pamela Rendi-Wagner and the Burgenland governor Hans Peter Doskozil is heading for a preliminary climax on Wednesday. The SPÖ presidium and then the party executive meet in the club’s rooms in the parliament. Last but not least, the question will be whether a party congress or a member decision should clarify the question of party leadership.
The latter is preferred by challenger Doskozil. The day before, he had caused a bang by letting the committees know in a letter that he would now officially apply for the job of SPÖ boss. To this end, he will propose a membership decision to the Executive Committee, in which not only the personnel issue should be clarified, but Doskozil also wants to have his program and team voted on.
He made it clear that he was not available for a vote at a party congress. Rendi-Wagner, on the other hand, wants a quick party conference to ensure clarity. While the party leader believes that important factors in the party, such as the Vienna state party and the trade union, are behind her, the state parties are divided.
