Kaiser: Current challenges need a closed SPÖ, in Carinthia we design successfully and sustainably, the future belongs to the children – optimistically forward
Klagenfurt – Today, Monday, more than 1,000 visitors, friends and members of the SPÖ Carinthia flocked to the traditional 1 May festival of the SPÖ Carinthia in Völkermarkt. Mayor Markus Lakounigg welcomed the guests in the ice rink, Labg. Manuela Lobnik and Labg. Hermann Srienz spoke greetings, the speech came like every year from SPÖ Carinthia state party chairman LH Peter Kaiser.
“In view of the many crises, problems and multiple challenges that we have to face today: the aggressive war by Russia in Ukraine, the massive wave of inflation, a changing world of work, keywords ChatGPT and artificial intelligence – it is sometimes difficult to be optimistic and positive not to lose sight of the future. Nevertheless, I am optimistic that we will overcome these challenges. We will survive these crises and take care of the people who suffer from them, because as social democrats we have an immense advantage: we have a compass, a signpost that gives us a direction for all challenges that we carry in our hearts and they there reads: freedom, equality, justice and solidarity,” said LH Kaiser in his speech.
“We will continue to use this compass to guide us when it comes to creating a future and prospects for the people of our country. On May 1st we have to make a clear commitment to the fact that basic needs such as a roof over your head and an income from work that you can live on are and must remain a matter of course. Our slogan for May 1st remains and reads: Legal entitlement instead of alms. And of course we have to ensure that our children also have a fair chance to lead a self-determined and fulfilling life – because the future is in their hands,” says Kaiser.
“That’s why our government program in Carinthia has the title: Sustainability. As the Carinthian Sustainability Coalition, we are committed to the people of the state to face the current challenges, to further develop Carinthia, to reconcile economy, ecology and social issues and the government program determines that we will be measured by our actions. The highest employment rate in Carinthia, recorded in February 2023, since records began is impressive confirmation of the excellent cooperation between politics, social partners and the AMS and a path that we want to continue in and for Carinthia,” said the governor.
“I see the member survey within the SPÖ as an opportunity to follow the recommendation of 150,000 members and then to make a decision on the chairmanship at the federal party conference on June 3rd. So that on June 4th, 2023, as SPÖ, we can do politics for the working people of our country. Questions of wealth and distribution policy in particular urgently need to be tightened up,” says Kaiser, who is also deputy federal party chairman.
“After 50 years of political work, following countless May marches, speeches and flag-waving, I am still enthusiastic regarding our May Day. From its historical significance as well as from its topicality. A new beginning is always inherent in May 1st, this year more than ever,” concluded the governor.
