On the occasion of World Sexual Health Day on 4 September, Petra Bayr, Member of the National Committee and Spokesperson for Foreign Policy and Global Development of the SPÖ, stressed the urgency of developing comprehensive education programs and improving care in the field of sexual health sex. “Sexual health is a fundamental human right. It involves more than just avoiding disease – it is closely linked to the dignity, autonomy and well-being of every person,” said Beyer.
Bayer is concerned about the increase in sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) in Europe and Austria. “The dramatic increase in infections, especially among young people, is alarming and clearly demonstrates that our education and prevention programs urgently need to be strengthened,” Beyer warned. As part of the 2030 Agenda, Reducing sexually transmitted diseases is also one of the goals of the United Nations.
Bayer noted that access to evidence-based information is crucial, especially for young people. “At a time when sexual rights are under increasing pressure around the world, we must ensure that education and care in this area are strengthened. I therefore support reliable prevention strategies and advocate for those affected to have access to modern treatments. For us at SPÖ “This is about creating a safe environment where all people can shape their own sexual and reproductive health in a self-responsible and informed way,” the MP concluded.
