Ahead of the Eid homecoming period, the government is ensuring the readiness of Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) at a number of points on the homecoming route on the islands of Java and Sumatra. Maximizing SPKLU was carried out to anticipate a surge in four-wheeled battery-based electric vehicles (KLBB) paving the homecoming route.

This was conveyed by the Deputy for Infrastructure and Transportation Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves) Rachmat Kaimuddin at a press conference, Thursday (4/4).

Rachmat said, PLN and partners have added around 175 SPKLUs in rest areas along the Trans Java and Sumatra toll roads, so that now the total SPKLU is 239 in these areas. Apart from that, PLN has prepared three mobile SPKLU which are ready to serve four-wheeled KLBB users on the main homecoming route.

“The government together with relevant stakeholders have carried out careful and thorough calculations to ensure the readiness and adequacy of SPKLU power for homecoming needs by four-wheeled electric vehicles,” said Rachmat.

“Therefore, our message to the public who use four-wheeled electric vehicles, whatever the brand, is not to hesitate to go home with an electric vehicle, God willing, we will ensure that it is safe and comfortable,” he added.

It is known that Java is the focus area for adding SPLKU considering that in the last three years, around 92 percent of the increase in sales of four-wheeled electric vehicles was centered on the island of Java. Sales of four-wheeled electric vehicles jumped 10 times from 2021 with sales figures increasing from 1,278 units in 2021 to 12,248 in 2023.

To maximize services, the government will also ensure that SPKLU operates 24 hours with officers on standby from the PLN homecoming post. Apart from that, mitigation measures have been prepared to avoid long queues, such as the maximum charging duration of 30 minutes. Four-wheeled KLBB users can also go to PLN offices in cities along the homecoming route to recharge.

Through these homecoming preparation steps, the total SPKU PLN and partners registered following adding units is 1,299 units spread across toll road rest area points and non-rest areas throughout Indonesia.

PLN and partners have added 76 SPKLUs on the West to East Trans Java toll road, bringing the total to 101 SPKLUs with a daily charging capacity of >62,400 kwh (assuming 50% utilization in 24 hours). Meanwhile, for the east to west route, PLN has added 71 SPKLUs, so that a total of 99 SPKLUs are available with a daily charging power of >54,600 kwh. The charging capacity for both routes is certain to be more than sufficient considering that the one-way charging requirement for the Trans Java toll road is around 28,800 Kwh per day.

To find out detailed SPKLU locations and related information such as charging rates, electric vehicle users can access it via the PLN Mobile application, the ESDM site and the Mudikpedia site (s.id/mudikpedia).
