The Ethics Committee of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance is meeting today, following the complaint submitted by 70 members of the official opposition against Christos Spirtzis. The complainants are calling for his immediate expulsion from the party, accusing him of a personal agenda and “victim and anti-party behaviour”.
Yesterday, Mr. Spirtzis proposed the creation of a wider cooperative progressive front, which would integrate all the democratic forces with the aim of overturning the government’s policy, while he emphasized that he will not attend the meeting.
Speaking today at OPEN, commenting on today’s meeting of the Ethics Committee of SYRIZA-PS, the former Minister said: “I think that what has been happening in SYRIZA for a long time is that a certain group is responsible for dealing with the internal affairs of SYRIZA and not in the political crimes committed by the government is a very wrong tactic and we paid for it in the recent European elections”.
Asked about the possibility of his deletion on the occasion of today’s meeting of the Ethics Committee of SYRIZA-PS, after a complaint of 70 members against him, “in the democratic progressive parties so far there is no deletion because some executive expressed his opinion” he argued, continuing saying that “what is being done in the opposition is disastrous”.
“Syriza-PS, especially, should have rolled up their sleeves,” he said about starting a dialogue with the end of “a political framework that we will agree on”, adding that “I am not interested. The internal affairs of SYRIZA are a secondary issue.”
At the same time, criticizing the government, “in this list of the government’s failures, they are faithful to the dogma that the government solves things by itself and does not solve them by itself,” the former Minister emphasized, adding that “it’s really anecdotal to say that these issues have been resolved, whether it is about accuracy or about energy.”
In the same direction, “the criticism leveled by the ND in front of the Katrougalou law was really a game in front of what is happening now” he declared, while he explained on the issue of wiretapping that especially for the Predator “there was no question to the private individuals who asked them to send the trap messages. Who asked for it, at what cost and for what reasons.”
“What is the audience that I, Nikos Androulakis, Mr. Hatzidakis, businessmen, the leader and leadership of the Armed Forces have?” asked the former Minister, adding that “so here we have a deep problem. The separation of powers no longer exists in Greece”, mentioning about the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court that “the Judiciary functions as a government official and as the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court”.
“If I am deleted, for the reasons of the complaint, i.e. because I said and say I did not stop for a moment to do it, my opinion publicly, it will be a great honor for me to be deleted”, said Mr. Spirtzis speaking to ERTNews. At the same time, he informed that he will not attend the Ethics Committee and specifically replied: “I congratulate the Ethics Committee which operates on August 5, but I am not available, just like the president is not.”
According to the ERT report, the possibility of taking disciplinary measures against Christos Spirtzis will be discussed at today’s meeting of the party’s Ethics Committee.
It is even possible to refer him for deletion, a possibility for which the opinion of the Central Committee of the party will probably be requested at its next meeting.
