**Host:** Welcome back to Archyde Racing, everyone. Today, we’re joined by trainer Jimmy Mangan, whose talented six-year-old Spillane’s Tower is making waves ahead of the prestigious King George VI chase at Kempton. Jimmy, welcome to the show!
**Mangan:** Thanks for having me.
**Host:** Spillane’s Tower heads a strong contingent of Irish hopefuls for the King George. Can you tell us a bit about his preparation for this major race?
**Mangan:** We’re feeling very positive about Spillane’s Tower’s chances. He’s been working incredibly well, and his recent form is encouraging. He claimed two Grade One victories last season as a novice and ran brilliantly against Fact To File in the John Durkan last month.
**Host:**
He’s certainly a rising star. What makes you think he’ll thrive over the King George distance and against such a competitive field?
**Mangan:** Spillane’s Tower has a great engine and he stays very well. The ground conditions at Kempton are currently good to soft which suits him perfectly. He’s a horse who is always willing to give his all, and I believe he has the potential to run a very big race.
**Host:** This year marks three years since Irish-trained horses last won the King George back-to-back. What do you think it is indeed about Irish training methods that consistently produces such high-caliber chasers?
**Mangan:**
I think there’s a strong tradition of horsemanship in Ireland, passed down through generations. We have excellent breeding and training facilities, and our jockeys are among the best in the world. We also have a competitive racing surroundings, which pushes trainers to constantly improve.
**Host:** Spillane’s Tower is one of several strong Irish contenders, including last year’s winner Hewick.Do you see this being a notably strong challenge for british-trained horses this year?
**Mangan:** It’s certainly shaping up to be a fantastic renewal of the King George. There are some top-class horses from both sides of the Irish Sea. It’s going to be incredibly competitive, and any one of several horses could win it.
**Host:**
Jimmy, let’s paint a picture of race day. How are you feeling? What are your expectations for Spillane’s Tower?
**Mangan:** Race day is always a nerve-wracking experience, but I’m really looking forward to it. we’re going there with a horse in great form who we certainly know can run a big race. As long as the ground is safe, he’ll have every chance.
We’re dreaming a little bit, but we shouldn’t be afraid to dream!
**Host:**
Well said, Jimmy. Thank you so much for joining us today. We wish you and Spillane’s Tower the very best of luck in the King George VI Chase.
**Mangan:** thanks for having me.
