Spilios Floros to ET: I also make humor about the most difficult things in my life 2024-05-08 19:07:42

The components of the process? Laughter, jokes, fun and humor! “After two seasons, I’m going to play the show for the last time and you’re basically going to see it at its best. Videotaping a performance is something of a celebration for Stand Up Comedy. You will see a performance with coherence, self-mockery, observational jokes and puns.

In general, I can’t wait to get on the stage of the Acropolis”, he confesses at the beginning of our conversation, which reminds us in the best possible way that we have been hearing since childhood… “There is no I can’t, there is no I don’t want to”. The date with the Athenian public is given at the Acropolis theater on May 21. His favorite comedians are John Mulanay and Taylor Tomlinson. In Greece, he mentioned Byron Theodoropoulos.

There are not a few of us who have thought about going to a party uninvited… Have you ever gone to a party uninvited?

The show is basically about this thought. We’ve all thought about going uninvited to a party, but we all have more or less the same reasons for not going. I finally went of course – spoiler alert – and it was the reason for the show…

What motivates you every time on stage?
Practically being myself on stage. Stand up is very nuclear for me and every time I go on stage I feel free to say what I want and be how I want. It’s a bit unconventional because in theory I’m constantly “judged”, but having written the texts and being able to humor even the most difficult things in my life strangely creates a freedom for me.

Does the audience’s response during the performance define you? Have you felt rejection?

You feel rejected all the time. You feel rejected when the tickets don’t go well, when the views on a video don’t go well, and especially when you tell a joke and it doesn’t go well. A silence after a “failed” text is a very heavy feeling, but you know that it is part of the process and that at the end of the day the positives outweigh the difficulties. You have to, despite the adversities, grit your teeth and work harder if you want to become good. But when you succeed and get a big laugh, you’re kind of vindicated.

As an actor – and in general as a worker of the new generation in the field of culture – how do you experience today?

Regardless of the status of the comedian, I experience today with anxiety. Life now has some objective difficulties, punctuality in shopping, high rents, etc., which affect you no matter what you do. How much more so in our work which has an expiration date and people can forget you in 1 month. Nevertheless, as I said before, good things overcome anxiety and fear and doubts. For me it’s better to do what you love, and let it last a while. If at some point it can’t be sustainable, we’ll see then what we do.

Are you the personality that brings laughter to the company?

I’m generally a closed person. In company I will havale, but only with those very close to me. I generally prefer to observe, not to talk much. I like peace and quiet. In general, I live like a 70-year-old.

Is the world today available for humor? What does each generation laugh at the most?

I personally don’t like the generational divide. I believe that humor can touch all ages at the same time. A good joke can make a 20-year-old and a 70-year-old laugh (I’m speaking from experience, I’m both at the same time). The medium is definitely changing, we’re pretty much on TikTok, the biggest generation on facebook. If I had to say something, I would say that maybe the older generations laugh more at stereotypes, something that disappears over the years.

What got you into the stand up comedy genre?

The money. Just kidding! Stand up personally made me laugh and forget in a very difficult phase of my life. It was such a strong feeling that it made me want to do it myself and help someone who was in my position.
