Spider veins on your legs. Transdermal laser or sclerotherapy? Which is the best treatment?
Telangiectasias or as they are usually called “spiders” are a very frequent pathology in phlebology consultations, occupying approximately 70% of them. For this reason its treatment has become important.
The first thing to take into account is a correct diagnosis, since a percentage of patients who present with spider veins and reticular varicose veins present underlying venous insufficiency that must be treated in the first instance.
Within the treatments to combat it, we can name sclerosis, which is a procedure founded since the 1920s that was improved and studied over the years. It consists of injecting a chemical substance into the vessel to be treated to generate a modification within it that leads to the occlusion of that vein.
Another treatment is transdermal laser, the laser light emitted by this equipment is captured by a component of the blood that, transformed into thermal energy, transfers its heat to the walls of the vessel, generating its partial or total closure.
So what is better? The proposal is a treatment that includes both treatments in one, managing to enhance the result, applying both effects and reducing complications.
At VIP we have a laser platform, with a unique technology in the area, with which we obtain good penetration into the tissues, producing the desired effect on the vessel to be treated without injuring the adjacent tissues, and if we add a sclerosant in low concentrations amplify the result and reduce its complications
Combined treatment allows:
• Carry out sessions where both lower limbs are treated.
• Results in 4 to 6 sessions.
• Outpatient clinic
• With session intervals of 1 month
• Without use of elastic bandage
Finally, it is important that each patient make a first consultation. In it, a global evaluation is made, and, taking into account the specific needs of each one, an appropriate individual plan is made.
