Spider-Man continues to weave its web at the top of the North American box office

The film, the first in the Covid era to have raised more than a billion dollars in North America and internationally since its release, thus retained the first place in front of the horror film “Scream” which briefly dethroned two weeks ago.

Seven weeks following its release, the Sony-produced film continues to bring a breath of fresh air to a cinema industry brought to its knees by the pandemic, with worldwide receipts of $1.69 billion.

The new version of the “Scream” saga, fifth of the name, comes in second position. The Paramount Studios horror film raked in $7.4 million in U.S. and Canadian theaters from Friday to Sunday, during a weekend when theaters were uncrowded.

Third place remains unchanged with the animated film from Universal Studios “Tous en Scène 2”, which gleaned 4.8 million this weekend.

Another Universal product, the Christian romance drama “Redeeming Love” once more came in at number four for its second week of release with $1.9 million in revenue. This parable of sin and redemption, set in California during the Gold Rush, was more successful with audiences, especially in the conservative South of the United States, than with critics.

“The King’s Man,” a prequel to the “Kingsman” spy flicks, starring actors Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton and Rhys Ifans, retained its fifth spot with $1.8 million.
