“Speechless, shocked, irritated”: Theater performances in Braunau canceled for the time being

“Bad news” recently reached the members of the Bauhoftheater Braunau. Due to a defective ventilation system, no operating permit might be issued for the “Stögerstadl”, i.e. the old music school. A fact that was only recently communicated to the Bauhoftheater people by the municipality: only following the months of preparation had been completed, the flyers had been printed, the first tickets had been sold and the costumes had been selected. Those responsible are “speechless, shocked and irritated by this news.” It is also sad that “we cannot serve this delicacy of a theater production” – at least for the time being. The production was scheduled to premiere on Thursday, April 4th.

Repair initiated

But postponement – even if it initially looked different – is not over: the municipality is trying to repair the ventilation system as soon as possible. It is not yet clear when the repairs will be completed and the theater production can be shown.

But the group around director Robert Ortner doesn’t want to let themselves be defeated, especially not in their “anniversary year”: the Bauhoftheater has been delighting audiences with top-class productions for 20 years. This year, another highlight was to be presented with the play “Eight Women” in addition to the popular and proven summer theater production. However, ticket sales had to be stopped for the time being. Tickets already purchased online will be automatically refunded. Tickets purchased in advance can be returned on Thursday, April 4th, Friday, 5th and Saturday, April 6th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Stögerstadl on Braunauer Linzerstrasse.

The focus will now be entirely on the summer production: as reported, the play “Mein Kampf” will be shown. The play by director and author George Tabori, which premiered in 1987, is being shown for the first time in Braunau – and thus for the first time in Hitler’s birthplace. This will premiere on July 4th at Kirchenplatz.
