Malang: 174 people were killed in a conflict between fans during a football match in Indonesia. Spectators clashed during an Indonesian league soccer match and resulted in a riot. Fans clashed during a match between Arema FC and Perseba Surabaya FC. The competition was held in Malang, East Java.
Arema FC won the match 3-2. The Indonesian police stated that the fans of the losing team, Parseba Surabaya, launched the attack. After the match, angry fans stormed the ground and attacked, as Indonesian police fired tear gas and other weapons.
The incident took place on October 1, Saturday night. 174 people have been killed so far. There are two police officers in it. More than 200 people have been injured. The police stated that the fans wearing red and blue jerseys directly attacked the Indonesian security forces at the stadium.
The Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare of Indonesia, Zainuddin Amali, has ordered a detailed investigation into the incident. According to the police, around 42500 spectators were there to watch the match. The Indonesian Football Association announced that all league matches scheduled for next week have been postponed due to the tragic incident. 38,000 tickets have been printed. But the police also stated that they will investigate how more than 42000 people came to watch the game.
The attackers even destroyed the vehicles outside the stadium. Police trucks and around 13 vehicles were set on fire by the assailants.
Arema FC are banned from playing matches at their own stadium. Arema FC cannot play at home until the end of this season
