[Reporter Li Rongping/Taoyuan Report]The Central Meteorological Administration issued a typhoon warning at 4 pm yesterday (15), but due to the interaction of the northeast monsoon and typhoon circulation, the Shimen Reservoir continued to rain heavily and the water level continued to rise. For safety reasons, the North District Water Resources Bureau of the Water Resources Department has opened the spillway for flood discharge at 7:30 am today. This is also the first flood discharge from the Shimen Reservoir this year. The public is requested not to enter the Dahanxi River.
The rain stopped for a while this evening, and the North Water Bureau closed the spillway tonight to stop flood discharge, and switched to flood discharge tunnels to adjust the water level. The cumulative rainfall reached 327.9 mm, with a total inflow of 83.1 million cubic meters and a total outflow of 84.34 million cubic meters during the period.
The Shimen Reservoir opened the spillway gate at 7:30 this morning. The water in the upper layer of the reservoir swooped down quickly, with a majestic momentum. In addition, the flood discharge tunnel and the sand discharge tunnel were combined, attracting people to brave the typhoon even if they were rained. Wet and umbrellas are also blooming, and they still stop to watch above the dam, taking rare pictures with their mobile phones.
As of 7 am today, the accumulated rainfall of Shimen Reservoir has reached 193 mm, the water level of the dam has exceeded the full water level of 245 meters, and the inflow is 1445 cubic meters per second. Due to the continuous rainfall in the catchment area, the spillway was opened at 7:30 this morning to increase the water release. The water output from the reservoir reached 1,570 meters per second, and the water level of Dahan Creek will rise significantly. Therefore, we appeal to the public to stay away from the river to ensure safety.
Guo Yaocheng, deputy director of the North Water Bureau, said that the water conditions of Shimen Reservoir are good this year, and the water storage capacity of the reservoir can be maintained at a high water level of more than 90% for a long time, so all kinds of water supply can be supplied normally. In particular, this year’s second-phase rice crops have entered the heading stage one after another, and this wave of rainfall should have a positive effect on the heading of rice crops. However, because the Bureau of Meteorology predicts that it will still be a weak El Niño phenomenon at the beginning of next year, and its rainfall will tend to be less, it is still necessary to ask everyone to continue to save water so as to make use of water next year.
