Spectacular pipe rupture in La Roche-en-Ardenne, the water supply could be disrupted in the region

A major break in the pipeline occurred this Saturday in the district of Lohan, in the territory of La Roche-en-Ardenne. The Walloon Water Company (SWDE) is on site and will probably stay there a good part of the night to carry out repairs.

“This is probably a damage caused during the floods in July, explains Guy Gilloteaux, mayor of La Roche. A large pipe, fifty centimeters in diameter, suffered from pressure displacement and ruptured. It is a whole supply basin that is concerned, La Roche, Erezée, Manhay, Rendeux as well as Durbuy. “

Reassuringly, a smaller pipeline located nearby has been put back into operation and should hold out until Sunday, according to the mayor. However, the flow being less important, it is to be expected that the water supply will be disrupted. The population is invited to consume water sparingly.

“In different places there are reservoirs, which will continue to be supplied but at a quarter of the normal supply. Hopefully the repercussions will be limited. But you know that even though we are in a rural area, the tourists are very present, the lodgings are very busy so inevitably the demand is more important. So we cross our fingers so that there is not a strong decrease in the flow. There are undoubtedly scattered places which will suffer , but we hope it will be very limited geographically. “

Some problems have already been observed in certain villages in the commune of Durbuy.
