The Liège criminal court decided on Friday to seek the opinion of a service specializing in the treatment of sex offenders before rendering its judgment in the case of a 22-year-old from Liège prosecuted for having possessed and disseminated images of sexual assault of minors. This defendant, a fan of extreme violence, used the login “Marc Dutroux” to access the Internet.
The defendant had collected images of sexual assaults on minors on his computer equipment, as well as zoophilic files, images of gang rapes and murder scenes. He used the login “Marc Dutroux” to access conversation sites focused on pedophilia. His actions, which began in 2019, were denounced in July 2020 by an American organization which deals with the protection of missing or exploited children.
Psychopath
In court, he admitted taking pleasure in watching suffering on the Internet. He also admitted that he created fake accounts on Facebook in order to sow discord between users. He also said he rejects any romantic relationship because he is afraid of being a psychopath.
An expert had determined that the defendant denies his responsibility and that he does not seem aware of his deviances or the prohibitions linked to sexuality. The prosecution had requested a one-year prison sentence and a fine against him.
Specialized service
In order to assess whether the defendant is capable of submitting to possible probationary conditions, the court decided to seek the opinion of a service specializing in the treatment of sex offenders.
The case will be re-examined on March 29.
