Asuncion, IP Agency.- More than 50 military medical professionals and technicians are participating in the care sessions for the people of Chaco as part of the “Friendship Mission 2024,” a cooperation between Paraguay, the United States and Taiwan.
Military doctors and Ministry of Health personnel are taking part in the medical mission. To date, 95 patients have been treated in dentistry, 50 in family medicine and 97 in optometry (ophthalmology) by foreign professionals, with the support of Primary Health Care (PHC) teams and the regional team.
The care sessions will run until August 8 at the Maternal and Child Hospital in Villa Choferes.
Patient recruitment was carried out through the Cacique Mayeto and Uje’Lhavos Family Health Units, as well as the Villa Choferes Maternal and Child Hospital and the Amistad Polyclinic.
The medical sessions that began on July 16 will conclude on August 8 with surgeries at the Maternal and Child Hospital in Villa Choferes.
The procedures planned are the following: laparotomy, abbreviated thoracotomy, vascular closures, fasciotomy, decompression of cardiac tamponade, emergency decompressive craniotomy, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, open hernia repair, minor surgeries and wound debridement.
This initiative seeks to provide access to specialized medical care to vulnerable populations in the Paraguayan Chaco, strengthen ties of cooperation between participating countries and contribute to the well-being of local communities.
