To be able to drive a car like the Ferrari SF90 on the roads of South Australia, it will be necessary in the future to have followed an online course.
FERRARI
In the Southern State (South Australia), drivers many supercars will have to present an additional driving license from the end of 2024 if they wish to drive their cars on public roads. This sesame will be required for UPOVs (Ultra-High-Powered Vehicles), very high-powered vehicles, that is to say those with a weight/power ratio greater than 375 hp per ton. About 200 vehicles fall into this category at present.
Risk of hefty fines
To obtain this category U license, motorists do not need to prove their driving skills. On the other hand, the latter will have to follow an online training which enlightens them on the potential dangers of high-powered vehicles as well as on the use of advanced driver assistance systems. According to the media, it will also be prohibited in South Australia in future to deactivate control systems such as ESP, the electronic stability control device, on powerful vehicles in public traffic. Offenders are liable to a fine of approximately 3000 francs. Prison sentences of several years are even foreseen if supercar drivers cause accidents and it is proven that they were negligent or that they used drugs.
The new regulations apply to vehicles with a power-to-weight ratio of at least 375 hp per tonne.

The trigger for this tightening of the legislation was an accident in 2019, during which the driver of an Italian sports car lost control of his vehicle and hit two young girls. One of them died, the second survived, but was seriously injured. The mandatory online training must make drivers of this type of car aware of the dangers associated with it.
In Switzerland, we do not yet know of any efforts in this direction. However, in our country too, supercar-related accidents regularly make the headlines.
