SPECIAL: Innovations from JVC Kenwood at IFA 2022 – DAB systems and “nearphones”

30.08.2022 (Carsten Rampacher)

At IFA 2022, JVC Kenwood is presenting numerous innovations, such as three new Kenwood Micro HiFi systems with DAB+ reception, Bluetooth® audio streaming, CD player and TFT color display.

M-925DAB

M-725DAB

The two larger models, M-925DAB and M-725DAB, impress with their classically elegant design, elegant aluminum surfaces and extensive equipment. A DAB+ tuner and a classic FM tuner are available for maximum flexibility. The integrated drive handles the playback of the CD collection. There is also a USB port on the front of the device. The Bluetooth function, which is also available, ensures easy wireless integration of smartphones or tablets.

The M-725DAB system is more compact

The 6.1 centimeter TFT color display provides all the information worth knowing, for example regarding the audio program currently running and the current settings and functions. The compact systems can be operated using either the infrared remote control included in the scope of delivery or the aluminum control elements on the front. Differences between the two microsystems M-925DAB and M-725DAB can be found in terms of amplifier power (2 x 50 to 2 x 25 watts), in the dimensions of the devices and loudspeakers and in the recommended retail price.

M-525DAB

The even more compact and inexpensive micro system Kenwood M-525DAB is recommended for users who are particularly price/performance-conscious and, for example, for use on the desk, in the kitchen or on the bedside table in the bedroom.

CR-M30DAB

Kenwood is also showing a DAB radio with flexible usage options at the IFA. The portable DAB+ radio with Bluetooth® streaming and an integrated rechargeable battery called the Kenwood CR-M30DAB was developed for staying at the bathing lake, for camping, holidays in general and the home garden. It should shine wherever there is no socket but entertainment with music, podcasts or audio books is desired.

Compact and elegant

With dimensions that do not even correspond to those of a thicker paperback, it not only fits easily in any backpack or hand luggage, but thanks to the battery integrated in the housing, it also plays for up to three hours until it is connected to a USB port or the included associated power pack must be recharged. It should be noted here that the battery life is not overly generous.

Classic black variant

As already mentioned, the compact and elegant Kenwood radio, which is available in the three housing versions rose gold, white, white and black, offers a DAB+ tuner and a 6.1 centimeter TFT color display. 30 stations can be stored in the device and then displayed in a list at any time and conveniently selected in the . The two absolute favorite stations can be activated directly by pressing a button on the front. And if a specific DAB+ station cannot be received, for example because you are in the shadows of high-rise buildings or out in the country with patchy DAB+ coverage, you can switch to the FM tuner that is also integrated in the CR-M30DAB.

Thanks to Bluetooth®, the radio is suitable for playing back audio data stored on smartphones, tablets or notebooks. In addition, the integrated clock allows the Kenwood radio to wake you up or put you to sleep. The Kenwood developers have also thought regarding listening to the radio undisturbed: any commercially available headphones can be plugged in via the 3.5 mm jack of the CR-M30DAB. The Kenwood compact radio CR-M30DAB is available from September 2022 for a recommended retail price of €69 available in specialist shops.
