THERE is an assumption that the Hajj Inquiry Committee will not be effective and is even a gimmick. Hajj Inquiry Committee member Wisnu Wijaya in his written statement said that this assumption is reasonable and must be respected. At the same time, it is considered a public response that wants the implementation of the hajj to be better and more honest.

“It’s okay if there is such an assessment. It’s fine. We respect it,” he said, Thursday (18/7).

He explained that the Hajj special committee was the answer to respond to the concerns of Hajj pilgrims, both regular and special, who complained regarding the Hajj costs that continued to rise, but there was no significant improvement in services every year.

“The special committee was formed to investigate in depth what the root of the problem is and how we can solve the problem together for better hajj services in the future. A hajj that is truly friendly to the elderly. A humanistic and honorable hajj,” he said.

Legally, the basis for the Indonesian House of Representatives to form a special committee is quite clear, namely the Indonesian House of Representatives Regulation on Rules of Procedure Articles 182-189. The issues discussed are also serious and fundamental issues in the implementation of the Hajj pilgrimage.

“What was raised was not only the issue of the transfer of additional hajj quotas that were indicated to violate the law. There were many fundamental problems that were highlighted by the monitoring team. For example, the issue of financial sustainability of the hajj, services in Armuzna such as accommodation, catering, the overflowing number of non-official visa hajj pilgrims and flight issues,” he said.

Previously, the Chairman of the National Commission for Hajj and Umrah, Mustolih Siradj, assessed that the basis for the formation of this Special Committee was actually not strong enough. Moreover, the topic raised was the issue of hajj quota. (Sru/Z-7)
