The 95th Oscar Awards gala lives its previous hours with the fresh memory of what was its most recent edition. “Regarding the post-slap, the producers already said: ‘Of course they are going to talk regarding what happened last year. And once that’s talked regarding, we’re going to move forward’”, points out Axel Kuschevatzky, an Argentine journalist who will once once more be on the red carpet (“champagne this year”) of the ceremony and that he thinks that a musical painting alluding to the 2022 scandal would be “a great idea”.
“I think it will be implicit in some of the jokes, in Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue,” adds the Mexican Lety Sahagún regarding the background that marked the 94th installment of the biggest film awards on fire, and that will be one more seasoning in an edition that will not go unnoticed, especially in Latin America.
oiled duo

“We understand each other as a team”, sums up the Mexican regarding an event that generates “a lot of adrenaline and emotion”, even with years of experience on their shoulders. Kuschevatzky seconded her: “Philosophically, if you shine, I shine. If you’re not comfortable, I’m not going to be okay either. It does not work”.
“We listen to each other, we have different sensibilities, but they coexist very well,” adds the Argentine. “The level of exposure and fragility that we have is very high, especially in vivo. Out there, people at home don’t even register it, but of course we are afraid of failing all the time! We have to take care of each other, ”he sums up.
A special edition: “Argentina, 1985″ and other Latin American nominations
When both hosts talk regarding the broadcast, they underline their role as a “connector bridge with the audience”, and ensure that the empathy and love put into telling what happens in the run-up to such an event are essential to strike a chord. intimate on the other side of the screen. And if in addition to that there are possible Latin American prizes at stake, everything is enhanced.
In this sense, Kuschevatzky highlights not only the nominations of Argentina, 1985 as best international film or pinocchio (directed by the Mexican Guillermo del Toro) for best animated film. The Mexican Alfonso Cuarón (producer of The Pupils, nominated for best live action short film); Chilean Claudio Miranda (director of photography for Top Gun: Maverick), and the Argentinian Florencia Martín (nominated for her work in the production design of Babylon), “one of the best art directors in the world”, according to the Argentine journalist, who also points out that “cinema is made by everyone”.

However, from Argentina all eyes will be on what happens with the Santiago Miter film. Kuschevatzky says that he wants “the same as any Argentine”, although he highlights the value and particular identities of the five films nominated in the category.
In addition, without leaving aside the expectations of the case, he assures that the award is not decisive for what the national film has already achieved: “Argentina, 1985 has a life that is superior to this instance. Whether we win or not, the film will always be around, and it will remind us of the importance of building a common memory among peoples; and within Argentina, of the importance of protecting democracy through Justice”.
An unpredictable Academy
“You can never predict anything with the Academy,” adds Sahagún, who clarifies: “There are more than 10,000 people who vote, from different countries and with different tastes.” Along the same lines, the Mexican is encouraged to stand out as a favorite among the main nominees for Everything everywhere at the same time.
“I wish with all my heart that this film wins because of the age, the creativity and the limits that its directors and creators have pushed. Because of the very small budget with which they made a film that achieved so many things, because of the subject matter and the representation of the actors that exist”, argues Sahagún.
“I would like it to win because it is a UFO, a different animal, it is an unclassifiable film, which promotes a different search, a rupture of the system”, Kuschevatzky sentence. And beyond the preferences, she assures: “It is a year of great nominees.”
