Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nabih Berri, pointed out today, Tuesday, that “we expressed every possible positivity regarding the “National Moderation” initiative and dealt with it openly. During my meeting with them, I reached an understanding with the representatives of the bloc on the smallest details related to this initiative, from A to Z, and we had an approach. We have common issues, and therefore what we heard from some following the bloc round has nothing to do with the essence of the initiative and what we agreed upon with its owners.”

He was surprised by the idea that “a number of representatives are coming together to meet in the Council,” which some people are promoting, considering that “this strange and strange proposal reflects a kind of cynicism and lightness at the level of political behavior in one of the most delicate stages that Lebanon is going through, as if these faltering representatives “Coincidence will bring them together in the Council’s lobby, and then they will decide, following this fateful meeting, to deliberate on the presidential candidacy.”

Berri confirmed in an interview with Al-Jumhuriya that “if it is not possible to agree on the identity of the next president in the context of any supposed dialogue or consultation, he is ready to hold an electoral session in successive first, second, third and fourth rounds, but in the event that we are not able to elect a president during it, it is my duty to close.” Minutes of the meeting and then set a date for another session soon.”

He warns that “keeping the session open would constitute a great risk because it would disrupt the legislative role of the Parliament, while it has become the only constitutional institution that is still regular.”

Berri points out that the five-member committee “agreed with me on the importance and necessity of dialogue,” noting that “there are those in Lebanon who unfortunately act on the basis that the nearby church does not heal.”

To demonstrate this, he recalls a vivid example that preceded the famous “Doha Agreement,” explaining that he had proposed before going to Qatar to adopt an integrated basket for the solution, but his proposal was rejected internally by several forces, before the representatives of these forces returned and agreed to the integrated basket. The same when they were in Doha!
