It’s the same procedure that removed the last speaker, Kevin McCarthy, five months ago when Republicans rebelled against his compromise with Democrats to prevent a federal government shutdown.

Greene, who is a leading ally of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, declined to say when she would put Johnson’s resignation question on the ballot, but added that she was giving Johnson “a warning” several weeks in advance.

“Speaker Johnson betrayed our party and broke our rules. We have started the clock to begin the process of electing a new Speaker who will side with the Republicans and not support the Democrats.” quotes The Hill words of the congresswoman.

How note to CNN, Johnson controls one of the smallest Republican splits in House history, so he has had to rely on Democratic votes to advance some key legislation, including government funding that the party’s conservative hardliners reject as too liberal.

GOP lawmakers who spoke with Greene told reporters that she plans to use the two weeks of recess when the House is not in session to figure out when to file a motion to remove the speaker.

When asked by CNN to comment, Johnson did not respond, brushing off the question.
