Federal Minister Martin Polaschek and the Savings Banks Association have secured support for the “Sparkasse Student League” for a further three years.
Vienna (OTS) – The Federal Minister for Education, Science and Research, Martin Polaschek, and the General Secretary of the Austrian Savings Banks Association, Franz Portitsch, have signed the contract for a three-year continuation of the successful school sports cooperation of the “Sparkasse-Schülerliga”. The contract secures the financial and organizational support of the popular school sports program for another 3 years.
“I am very pleased that we will continue the successful and long-standing cooperation with the Austrian Savings Banks Association in the future. By promoting school sports, we not only ensure more exercise and balance in everyday school life, but we also offer the pupils the opportunity to discover and develop their sporting talents,” emphasized Federal Minister Polaschek at the joint signing of the contract in the Federal Ministry of Education and Science and research.
The Sparkasse student league has been very popular for more than 45 years. Every year around 18,000 students and teachers are active in the student league disciplines futsal, football and volleyball in over 1,000 schools throughout Austria and take part in state and national competitions. “The continuation of our sponsorship of the nationwide student league is particularly important to us and fits perfectly with the Sparkasse idea of supporting social and community issues in the region. The participating schools are also fully behind us and help us to get pupils interested in sports and to promote new talent,” says Franz Portitsch, who is pleased regarding the successful cooperation that has existed for more than 40 years.
School sport has not only laid the foundation for the careers of many successful Austrian professional athletes, above all David Alaba in football and Barbara Hansel in volleyball, but it also contributes to the development of health awareness in many children and young people. In addition, it also strengthens the participants’ skills that will be of use to them in their further academic and professional careers, such as team spirit and dealing with both success and failure. For this reason, the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research and the Austrian Savings Banks Association are contributing to the further consolidation of the compulsory subject of exercise and sport and will continue the cooperation from 2023 to 2026.
