Spanish Foreign Ministry: We have joined South Africa’s call and European countries must support the International Court of Justice

“Spain recognized the Palestinian state and participated in the lawsuit with South Africa once morest Israel as two prominent measures towards the Palestinian cause,” the Spanish minister said at the European Council on Foreign Relations conference in Madrid, with his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan, on Thursday.

He added that “all European countries must support the United Nations, the International Court of Justice and international law.”

For his part, Bin Farhan announced the Kingdom’s support for the deployment of an international force in Gaza, based on a UN resolution, whose mission is to support the Palestinian Authority, noting that he does not see any possibility of a ceasefire in Gaza.

He added, “The current situation is frustrating because we do not see any possibility of a ceasefire and we see a crisis in the humanitarian situation,” noting that “we see every day in Gaza and the West Bank elements working to threaten the two-state solution.”

On the Lebanese file, Bin Farhan said, “We are concerned regarding the risk of the war expanding in Lebanon, and we do not see any political horizon,” adding that a ceasefire in Gaza might help stop the tension on the border between Israel and Lebanon.

In mid-May, Arab leaders called at the conclusion of the Arab Summit hosted by Manama for the deployment of international protection and peacekeeping forces affiliated with the United Nations in Palestine until the two-state solution is implemented.

The Israeli war on the Gaza Strip has been ongoing since October 7, 2023, causing more than 38,000 deaths and 87,000 injuries, most of them children and women, while there are still more than 10,000 missing.

Meanwhile, tensions have risen on the Israeli-Lebanese border, with the Israeli army and the Lebanese Hezbollah exchanging intermittent artillery fire, amid fears in Israel of possible infiltrations from the border.
