Mounir Nasraoui, the father of international player Lamine Yamal (of FC Barcelona), was stabbed on Wednesday, August 14, in a parking lot in the Rocafonda neighborhood of Mataró in Barcelona, Spain.
Nasraoui was attacked with a knife and was admitted to the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital in Badalona, Can Ruti, with injuries of varying severity, sources close to the investigation told EFE.
The Catalan police have taken charge of the investigation into the attack on the father of the Barça player, in which several people were involved, and have already arrested a group of suspects related to this incident.
So far the FC Barcelona has not commented on the incident on social media and there are no reports of Yamal’s presence at the health center.
The details of the incident
According to the testimony of some residents of the area cited by the newspaper The VanguardYamal’s father was harassed by individuals while he was walking his dog. They also threw water at him from a balcony.
According to these sources, this incident later led to a fight in which he was attacked with a knife.
On the other hand, the neighbors informed the Spanish media that eight Catalan police patrols showed up at the scene to find the witnesses.
Despite the stabbing, Nasraoui’s condition remains “stable,” according to information published by the Spanish newspaper The Vanguard.
Who is Lamine Yamal?
Lamine Yamal is currently one of the FC Barcelona players and became internationally known thanks to his debut at the Euro 2024 that was played in Germany.
At 16 years, 11 months and 2 days, he became the youngest player to debut in this competition -he takes the record from the Polish Kacper Kozlowski- and being a starter, surpassing the Dutchman Jetro Willems.
Yamal, who is of Moroccan and Equatorial Guinean descent, first played for FC Barcelona in April 2023.
The Spanish footballer is currently considered one of the most promising players in Spanish football and has been compared to the Argentine Lionel Messi.
