MADRID (Archyde.com) – Spain’s National Prosecutor’s Office said on Monday that Rubiarez, head of the Spanish football federation, will face criminal charges for kissing midfielder Hermoso after his country’s women’s soccer team won the World Cup.

The prosecution added that Jenni Hermoso had filed her testimony yesterday and that her complaint would be dealt with “as soon as possible.”

Luis Rubiales could face criminal charges as a result of Hermoso’s lawsuit. Rubiares has also been temporarily suspended for 90 days by FIFA, which is investigating “serious misconduct” by Spain’s Supreme Court of Sport.

Representatives for Hermoso and Rubiares have yet to comment on the matter.

The Spanish women’s football team defeated England 1-0 in the World Cup on August 20 and won the first championship in team history. Rubiarez held Hermoso’s head and kissed her mouth at the award ceremony.

At the end of last month, prosecutors in the Spanish High Court stated that if Hermoso, who is currently living and playing football in Mexico, files a complaint, Lubiares may face sexual assault charges, which can be sentenced to 1 to 4 years in prison.

The case took place overseas in Sydney, Australia, but the Spanish Supreme Court has jurisdiction.

Hermoso said she didn’t want to be kissed because it made her feel “very vulnerable, a victim of assault”. Despite the intense pressure, Rubiares has so far been reluctant to resign, calling the kiss “spontaneous, consensual, extremely exciting and consensual.”

Rubiares’ actions sparked outrage both inside and outside Spain. During the World Cup championship, Rubiares also grabbed Spain’s Queen Letizia (Queen Letizia) and her 16-year-old daughter in the crotch.
