(CNN) — The press office of the Supreme Court of Catalonia said, in a statement, on Friday, that a judge has ordered the detention of Brazilian player Dani Alves in remand without bail, as the player is under investigation for “sexual assault.”
“The football player Dani Alves, accused by a woman of alleged sexual assault, in events that allegedly took place in a nightclub in Barcelona, during the month of December, was received by the investigative judge,” the statement read.
“The judge ordered the player to be imprisoned without bail, and allowed him to receive communications,” the statement added.
According to the court’s press office, the woman who filed the complaint once morest the “samba” player testified on Friday before the investigating judge, as did an eyewitness.
He added that the separate testimony of the woman and her lawyer, Alves and his defense attorney, as well as the public prosecutor and the investigating judge were heard.
The press office stated that the investigating judge did not announce the content of the woman’s testimony.
And the police media office had told CNN, at the time of the race on Friday, that the Brazilian player was arrested and then taken to court, and following hours, he appeared before the investigating judge.
CNN contacted Mexico’s Universidad Nacional, Alves’ current club, but he did not immediately respond.
According to the “Archyde.com” news agency, Alves denied, two weeks ago, in a video clip broadcast on the Spanish television program “Y Ahora Sonsoles”, the accusations once morest him.
Dani Alves is one of the most decorated footballers of his generation, having won domestic titles in Spain, Italy and France, and three Champions League titles with FC Barcelona.
