Madrid: Brazilian football player Dani Alves, who is in prison following being arrested in a sexual assault case, has suffered a heavy blow. The Spanish court rejected the actor’s bail plea. The court said that if the actor is released on bail, there is a possibility that he will leave the country, so he should remain in jail until the investigation is completed.

The star’s lawyer told the court that Alves is ready to produce his passport and wear an electronic tracking device if he gets bail. If found guilty, the actor might face years in prison. Because of this, the court denied the bail, seeing the possibility that the actor would escape if he was released on bail. Rape in Spain carries a maximum sentence of 15 years.

The incident in question was on December 30. The woman accused Dani Alves of touching her in a nightclub in Barcelona. In the complaint, it was alleged that he put his hand inside her pants and violated her. Meanwhile, Dani Alves denied the woman’s allegations stating that he had gone to the club on the day of the incident. He had said that he had not even met the complainant before this. The woman lodged a complaint once morest Alves on January 2. Later, the police arrested the actor.
