**Interview with Rocío San Miguel: A Voice for Human Rights in Venezuela**
**Editor:** Today, we have the privilege of speaking with Rocío San Miguel, a prominent Venezuelan activist and lawyer. Recently, Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, publicly expressed support for you before the United Nations Human Rights Council. Rocío, can you share what this endorsement means for you and your work?
**Rocío San Miguel:** Thank you for having me. Minister Albares’s support means a great deal not only to me personally but also to all Venezuelans who are fighting for democracy and human rights. It symbolizes an acknowledgment of the struggles we face and highlights the international community’s responsibility to support those who stand up against oppression.
**Editor:** In recent years, Venezuela has experienced significant political turmoil and human rights violations. How do you believe international support, like that from Spain, can impact the situation on the ground?
**Rocío San Miguel:** International support is crucial. It raises awareness and puts pressure on the Venezuelan government to adhere to human rights norms. It also empowers local activists by validating our efforts and showing that we are not alone in this fight. When countries like Spain take a stand, it sends a strong message to oppressive regimes that the world is watching.
**Editor:** What are the key human rights issues currently facing Venezuelans, and how do you hope to address them through your activism?
**Rocío San Miguel:** The most pressing issues include freedom of expression, political persecution, and widespread abuse by state security forces. Through my activism, I aim to document these atrocities, provide legal assistance to victims, and advocate for justice both locally and internationally. We need to ensure that those responsible for human rights violations are held accountable.
**Editor:** As a lawyer and activist, what message do you want to convey to the international community regarding Venezuela?
**Rocío San Miguel:** I want to emphasize the importance of solidarity. Change in Venezuela will not happen overnight, but consistent support from the international community can energize our efforts. We need sustained engagement, not just reactionary policies. Every voice counts, and together we can help pave the way for a brighter future for our country.
**Editor:** Thank you, Rocío, for sharing your insights and experiences with us. We wish you and your fellow activists the best of luck in your ongoing fight for justice and human rights in Venezuela.
**Rocío San Miguel:** Thank you for having me, and thank you for bringing attention to these vital issues.
