Spaniard Rahm wins Masters in Augusta

Spaniard Jon Rahm has won the legendary Masters in Augusta for the first time in his career, preventing a pro from the controversial LIV Tour from winning. The 28-year-old golfer needed a total of 276 strokes and was twelve under par. Rahm was four strokes ahead of two professionals who played for the much-criticised LIV tour financed by Saudi Arabia and shared second place: the two Americans Phil Mickelson and Brooks Koepka.

On the final round, Koepka lost a two-stroke lead on Rahm and ended the tournament with a round of 75. Three-time Masters champion Mickelson came up with a round of 65. After the US Open 2021, Augusta Rahm’s success was his second win at a major. Austria’s Sepp Straka finished 46th with seven over par.

Tiger Woods retired following seven holes of the third round due to foot pain. The superstar had previously made the cut for the 23rd time in a row in Augusta, setting a record. Because of the weather-related interruptions, the usual schedule in Augusta had been thrown into disarray. The pros didn’t finish the third round until Sunday morning.
