Spaniard Aleix Espargaro won the Catalan MotoGP Grand Prix. The winner of Saturday’s sprint edged out teammate and compatriot Maverick Vinales. Also note the heavy fall of the Italian Francesco Bagnaia, leader of the drivers’ classification.

Aleix Espargaro (34) – who was born in Granollers, in the immediate vicinity of the circuit located in Montmeló near Barcelona – thus celebrated the 3rd success of his career in MotoGP. Aprilia, for its part, achieved the first double in its history in the premier category. The podium was completed by another Spaniard, Jorge Martin (Ducati).

Reassuring news regarding Bagnaia

Championship leader, Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) suffered a heavy crash at turn 2 just following the start. He lost the rear and was hit by Brad Binder (KTM), who ran over his legs.

As 5 drivers had fallen from the 1st corner, the race was interrupted by a red flag. Bagnaia, transported to the hospital, might not take the 2nd start. He nevertheless retains a comfortable lead of 50 points over Jorge Martin. The first news concerning the defending champion is reassuring: he would not be affected too much.
