Campobasso’s Roaring Victory: A Football Fable

CAMPOBASSO: The wolf roars at the Avicor Stadium, leaving the visitors, Spal, howling in despair! After a Sunday outing that can best be described as a masterclass of football, Campobasso put on a performance delightful enough to make even the most cynical fan crack a smile. Meanwhile, Spal wandered on to the pitch like they’d just come from a very long nap—unfortunately, not a refreshing one, but more like that kind of sleep where you wake up confused and drooling on your own chin.

The Scoreboard Speaks Volumes

Final Score: Campobasso 4 – 0 Spal

When the dust settled and the last whistle blew, the scoreboard told a story fit for a fairy tale—only this time, the big bad wolf is the one scoring fabulous goals! The markers read: Di Stefano at 39′, Di Nardo at 70′, Serra at 83′, and Forte R. sealing the deal at 92′. Honestly, Spal will want to erase that scoreline from memory faster than you can say “What on earth happened?”

The Teams in Action

Campobasso Lineup: Forte F., Benassai, Scorza (46′ Baldassin), Di Nardo (81′ Spalluto), Pierno, Morelli, Pellitteri (81′ Serra), Calabrese, D’Angelo (66′ Prezioso), Bosisio, Di Stefano (66′ Strong R.). Coach: Braglia

Spal Lineup: Melgrati, Awua (66′ Radrezza), Antenucci, Karlsson, Rao (81′ Bidaoui), Sottini, Mignanelli, Zammarini, Arena, Calapai, D’Orazio (81′ Camelio). Coach: Dossena

A Referee’s Day Out

Whistle at the ready and cards in hand, Mr. Giorgio Bozzetto of Bergamo officiated this riveting affair. To be honest, the only spot he made that would raise eyebrows was giving out silly ammonites like candy. Primarily, those went to the poor souls from Spal, who found themselves in the referee’s line of sight more often than wanted.

Dossena’s Post-Match Reflections

Dossena, the Spal coach who we could only imagine was close to throwing in the towel, shared his thoughts:
“After the first opportunity, we were no longer able to offer play. We saw players who are hungry, who win tackles, and who press correctly. If we think we are stronger on paper, we are very wrong. What I saw in Campobasso today, I would like to see in my team.”
A man reflecting upon his team’s performance with the same level of realization you’d expect from someone who’s just opened their bank statement after a wild weekend.

But wait, there’s more! Dossena went on about the fans:
“It’s truly a disappointment to offer performances like today’s to the fans.” If anybody’s a disgruntled fan right now, it’s surely a Spal supporter watching their team flop like a fish out of water!

Final Thoughts

As Campobasso strutted away with their tails held high and the dreams of a glorious season ahead, Spal left the arena with more questions than answers. Will they be able to wipe the slate clean? And as for Dossena—well, a good coach knows the journey is just at its beginning. Let’s hope he can turn things around before the next match—or watch out for that “Beyond the Scoreboard” segment on next week’s episode of “What Went Wrong?”

CAMPOBASSO. The wolf wins and convinces in the Sunday outing at home against Spal. The team led by Dossena at the Avicor Stadium did not arrive, without ideas and without strength.

POST MATCH STATEMENTS DOSSENA, SPAL COACH:“After the first opportunity we were no longer able to offer play. Players who are hungry, who win tackles, who press in a certain way. If we think we are stronger on paper, we are very wrong. What I saw in Campobasso today, I would like to see in my team. In the first half we tried to raise the ball directly to try to attack the line without looking for phrasing in the narrow. Bassoli had a physical problem in the warm-up. Antenucci is a positive guy, who always sets a clear example of a professional athlete. There are attitudes and alarm bells which however must be addressed by individuals: every boy must be aware of the mistakes he makes, regardless of the more experienced classmates who can give him a hand. The public? I didn’t know Ferrara, but once you get to know the square, with the stadium always full and their constant presence in away games, it’s truly a disappointment to offer performances like today’s to the fans.”
