According to Spanish media, in the dark they would not have realized where they were.

This Sunday morning, two people died in the Girona sector while being chased by the Mossos d’Esquadra. The two men, who had stolen a van, were spotted on the Girona Sud motorway rest area around 3 am. Once the reinforcements of the Catalan police arrived on the spot, the thieves then engaged on the AP-7 motorway at high speed.

Before stopping, continue on foot and step over the safety barriers. But in the dark, the two men did not realize where they were: on a 30 meter high bridge which spans the Terri River according to our colleagues from The Chain Being. Their fall was fatal.

While the identification of the thieves is still in progress, the Mossos have opened an investigation, they who believe that the fugitives are specialists in motorway areas.
