Spain qualified for the semi-finals of Euro 2024 by beating host country Germany 2-1 following extra time on Friday 5 July in Stuttgart.
Dani Olmo scored in the 51st minute for Spain and Germany’s Florian Wirtz equalised in the final minutes of regulation time (89th) before Mikel Merino headed his team in (119th). Spain will have to wait until the end of the France-Portugal match to find out which of the two teams they will face in the semi-finals on Tuesday 9 July.
This match marked the end of Toni Kroos’ career. The 34-year-old German midfielder played his last competition. Joselu, his former Real Madrid teammate, did not fail to joke regarding the situation. “We hope to retire him”he said at a press conference.

France qualified for the semi-finals of the Euro by eliminating Portugal 5 penalties to 3 (0-0 aet) in the second quarter-final, Friday evening in Hamburg.
In the semi-final next Tuesday in Munich, the Blues will face Spain, who eliminated Germany a little earlier, 2-1 following extra time.
