Spain beats France 5-0 to win football gold at Paris Olympics

France opened the scoring through Enzo Milot in the 11th minute, and Fermin Lopez quickly equalized for Spain in the 18th minute, then the same player added the second goal in the 25th minute.

In the 28th minute, Alejandro Baena Rodriguez scored the third goal for “La Roja” from a direct free kick.

The Roosters returned strongly in the second half and scored two goals through Magnes Akliuch in the 78th minute and Jean-Philippe Mateta from a penalty kick in the 90+3 minute. The original time of the match ended in a positive tie (3-3), so the two teams resorted to extra time.

In the first extra time, the Spanish team regained its lead, scoring the fourth goal through substitute Sergio Camilo in the 100th minute.

While the French were rushing to equalise, the Spaniards settled the matter completely by scoring the fifth goal from a wonderful counterattack that Camilo finished in the 120+1 minute.

This is the second gold medal in Spain’s history in the men’s football competition, after the first won by the “La Roja” team at the Barcelona 1992 Olympics.

For its part, the French team failed to win the second gold medal in the history of its Olympic participations after the only one it achieved in Los Angeles in 1984.

It is noteworthy that the Moroccan team won the bronze medal after defeating its Egyptian counterpart 6-0 in the third-place match.
