Spain and Nigeria strengthen energy cooperation

#Other countries : Spain and Nigeria have reaffirmed their desire to further strengthen their cooperation in the field of energy and to explore new perspectives in this field.

“Spain and Nigeria have confirmed their desire to strengthen energy supplies, at a time when international pressure on energy markets is particularly strong due to the current context of war”, underline the two countries in a joint statement published, Thursday, following Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Spain.

In this context, “Spain has recognized Nigeria as one of its main suppliers of energy and the most reliable in gas and oil”, notes the document, recalling that Spain as the second customer of Nigeria in energetic matter.

On this occasion, the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez informed President Buhari of «the interest of Spanish companies» from the sector to «continue to support Nigeria to seek agreements that guarantee a stable and sustainable supply»extending this strategic relationship also to the development of sustainable energy, in line with the 2030 Agenda.

As part of the diversification of its energy sources, Spain last May consolidated its strategic energy alliance with Qatar, a «loyal and responsible partner».

«Spain and Qatar underlined the importance of a stable and fruitful cooperation in the field of energy and gas, as Qatar is one of the main gas suppliers to Spain and has always proven that he was a loyal and responsible partner»noted a Joint Statement issued at the end of an official visit by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to Spain.
