SpaceX, an American private space company, launched Starship, a large spacecraft as tall as a 40-story apartment building.

This is the third test launch, and it was a ‘half success’ as it succeeded in reaching Earth’s orbit but failed to return.

Correspondent Lim Kyung-ah reported from New York.

Starship, the largest space launch vehicle in human history, raises its massive body and soars into space.

This is a ‘largest-ever’ launch vehicle that Elon Musk has been developing with the dream of humans pioneering Mars.

The first-stage rocket ‘Super Heavy’ is 70 meters long, and the second-stage spacecraft ‘Starship’ is 50 meters long, with a total length of 120 meters and the height of a 40-story apartment building.

Although the test flight started empty, it is large enough for 100 people to head into space at once.

Starship reached Earth’s orbit at a maximum altitude of 234 km and a maximum speed of 26,000 km/h and flew for approximately 48 minutes.

Afterwards, it vividly conveyed the appearance of ‘friction flames’ as it descended over the Indian Ocean and re-entered the atmosphere.

“Oh my gosh, you can see the heat developing on the surface as it begins to re-enter the Earth’s atmosphere.”

But following this, the broadcast was cut off.

It is presumed that it burned or disintegrated following falling into the sea.

″We are now concluding that spacecraft 28 has been lost.″

Although it did not achieve complete success, it is said to have set a new milestone by being recorded as the largest and most powerful rocket ever to reach space.

“SpaceX must prove that Starship is 100% safe before it can carry astronauts. We haven’t achieved the final step today, but we hope to achieve it in the near future.″

SpaceX has been developing rockets in a ‘fail fast but learn faster’ way.

Six more test launches are scheduled for this year, and interest is expected to grow as to what record it will set next time.
