The spacewalk suit is based on the suit used by astronauts on the Crew Dragon spacecraft. Unlike the latter, the former is distinguished by a new design at the joints, providing the necessary degree of mobility in outer space, improved temperature management and an updated helmet with a sun shield, camera and head-up display, providing the information necessary in outer space.
The suits are planned to be used for the first time during the private tourist mission Polaris Dawn, which involves a two-hour spacewalk (taking into account the time for depressurization and subsequent pumping of air into Crew Dragon). In the future, the suits are planned to be used in regular missions of Crew Dragon ships.
The mission is planned for early summer.
In February, the publication reported that the Polaris Dawn spacewalk mission had been postponed from April to mid-2024. The transfer is due to safety reasons, requiring, in particular, modifications to the Crew Dragon spacecraft and spacesuit for spacewalks.
