Currently, just over 10,500 satellites orbit the Earth. By the end of the decade, there might be up to six times more. A figure that makes you dizzy and which greatly worries the astronomer community. A year ago, a new milestone was reached when the American operator AST SpaceMobile placed in orbit the first device of its future BlueBirds constellation intended for cellular telephony. This experimental craft, known as BlueWalker 3, has a 64 square meter antenna, the largest of any commercial low-orbit satellite to date. And it is also, from now on, one of the brightest objects in the night sky, surpassing famous stars like Procyon and Achernar, according to a study published this Monday, October 2 in the scientific journal Nature.
