An edition of SPACE full of success according to the organizers.
For its 35th anniversary, SPACE took place from Tuesday 13 to Thursday 15 September in a very positive and warm atmosphere. Attendance at this 36th edition was very dense throughout these three days at the Parc-Expo in Rennes. Planet Livestock in all its bovine, porcine, poultry, rabbit, ovine, caprine and aquaculture dimensions found itself in a very constructive and positive atmosphere.
SPACE 2022 was indeed a great success, welcoming more than 90,000 visitors (90,108, including 8,406 international from 120 countries), and nearly 1,200 exhibitors (300 of them were international companies and 250 participated at SPACE for the first time).
The Show has regained its full international dimension following two years which had severely limited the travel of foreign professionals. Delegations from all over the world have come to meet exhibitors, take part in farm visits and draw inspiration from our organizational models. Many contacts have been established with the delegations of West Africa (Senegal, Ivory Coast, Mali, Benin, …) and Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Morocco, Algeria, Vietnam and the Philippines, as well as many European countries. The meetings organized for the first time in partnership with Promosalons made it possible to initiate significant business flows with top buyers from Colombia, Chile, India, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Morocco and from Nigeria.
In a context marked by drought and soaring energy and raw material costs, the climate was the theme of the year carried by Espace pour Demain. Thanks to the numerous debates, conferences, products and equipment presented by the exhibitors, SPACE 2022 has made it possible to show that the players in the agricultural world are already well engaged in the steps aimed at reducing the impact of livestock farming on the climate. Livestock provides solutions to climate challenges, and SPACE has made it possible to demonstrate this.
Innovations in the sector distinguished by the Innov’Space label (36 winners this year) have also made it possible to highlight the constant progress made by the agricultural world. The winners offered visitors new solutions in terms of animal welfare, environmental preservation, health safety and improved working conditions for breeders.
One of the great novelties of this edition was the first “Espace Jeunes”, set up in collaboration with agricultural education networks and inaugurated by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, Marc Fesneau, during his visit at the opening of the show. This new space allowed young people to voice their visions of their future professions. They were also able to express their motivations and questions to the President of the Brittany Region, Loïg Chesnais-Girard, who paid particular attention to these expressions.
SPACE is also unique in its ability to host around a hundred conferences each year, which allow all players in the agricultural world to learn regarding and discuss all these current topics: new technologies, solutions to reduce the impact climate, installation and transmission of farms, protein autonomy, research on new forage varietal species, CAP issues, etc.
The animal presentations, with 550 cattle of 13 breeds, and 150 sheep and goats of 11 different breeds offered a magnificent showcase of the genetics and know-how of breeders. The Jersey breed was the dairy breed in the spotlight, with more than 60 animals in presentation and competition. SPACE was the occasion for this breed to organize its European congress and to invite its world office to discover the unique place of SPACE for professionals in animal genetics. The Blonde d’Aquitaine was the meat breed in the spotlight and its national challenge was a great success with 80 animals presented. The champion of the Normandy Breed Competition was elected Supreme Champion of SPACE 2022. It is also in this dimension of genetic showcase, presentations and high-level competitions that the Show brings progress for breeders.
For its anniversary edition, SPACE 2022 has therefore perfectly embodied its three essential characteristics: a professional, international and friendly show. These three days, despite a difficult situation, proved with all these constructive exchanges, with the density of participants in the aisles and on the stands, with the very positive dynamic that emanated from it, that SPACE, 35 years following its creation , is an exceptional showcase of the breeding world. A world full of the future, modern, in permanent evolution, anxious to meet the demands of society and to nourish it. All this positive energy and optimism allow us to be confident in the determination of farmers to exercise their profession with conviction on our territory to ensure our food sovereignty while being in tune with their fellow citizens.
