Launched on Friday April 14 from French Guiana, the European space probe Juice has already sent its first images of Earth.
A recognizable blue planet. The European Space Agency (ESA) has shared the first pictures of the Juice probe, which took off on Friday April 14, launched by an Ariane 5 rocket.
These photographs were taken with control cameras, located at the front and at the top of the device, indicated theESA. On the first of them, the Horn of Africa stands out.
According to the European Space Agency, the photos have been slightly modified to embellish the colors of the Earth.
On two of these “space selfies”, we can see the solar panels with which Juice is equipped. The size of a basketball court – 85m2 – they will be useful for maintaining power in an environment where sunlight is 25 times weaker than on Earth.
eight years of travel
Juice took off on Friday April 14 from the spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana. Its objective is to go to Jupiter and its icy moons in search of environments conducive to forms of extra-terrestrial life.
If Jupiter, a gaseous planet, is uninhabitable, its moons Europa and Ganymede are ideal candidates: under their surface of ice, they shelter oceans of liquid water, yet only water in a liquid state makes life possible.
