Space debris stuck to the leg of a Mars helicopter

NASA’s Mars Helicopter Ingenuity has completed its 33rd flight. But this time around, something unexpected happened. An object that appeared to be unidentified garbage was attached to the helicopter landing bridge.

During the flight on September 24, Ingenuity’s navigation camera NavCam reportedly caught garbage. In the video, Ingenuity flew up with garbage attached to the landing bridge until the garbage fell during flight.

According to NASA, the space debris appears not to have been seen in previous flights, and the helicopter airflow data itself is all normal. In other words, it does not appear to be garbage from the gas. In the update, it is said that the Ingenuity team is working on the identity and source of the garbage.

It is said that the 33rd flight of Ingenuity recorded an altitude of 10m and a travel distance of 111m with a flight time of less than 1 minute. This isn’t the first time space junk has been found on Mars. In July, the Mars rover Perseverance filmed an object that looked like a lump of pasta, and in April, Ingenuity also aerially photographed an abandoned parachute during the Mars landing process.
