“This session was a way to break stereotypes about migrant workers like us,” Babu said. “In public, there is no opportunity for us to interact with such students. I often wonder what their lifestyle is like, and if they would speak with us.
“During the workshop, it felt like we were all the same, motivating one another to do our best.”
martin Koh, deputy chief of MOM’s Ace Group, emphasized the importance of such events in fostering connection between migrant workers and the local community.“the powerlifting event, led by Singapore Polytechnic students,is an example of a shared passion which brought the students and migrant workers together,” Koh explained. “This year, we are heartened to see several youth-led initiatives such as a frisbee tournament, a kitemaking workshop and a tour to Gardens by the Bay between youths and migrant workers. We hope more will step forward to join us in raising awareness and appreciation of our migrant workforce.”
The workshop highlighted not only the impressive strength and dedication of these migrant workers but also the potential for meaningful connection and understanding across different communities within Singapore.Local residents Rally to Support Neighborhood Library
in a display of heartwarming community spirit, local residents have banded together to support their beloved neighborhood library. Faced with funding challenges, the library launched a fundraising campaign aimed at ensuring its continued operation and vital role in the community.
The library’s meaning extends far beyond its shelves, acting as a hub for education, connection, and cultural enrichment. It’s a place where people of all ages come together to learn, explore, and engage with their community.
“This library is more than just a building; it’s the heart of our neighborhood,” said one resident.
The fundraising campaign has garnered impressive support, with residents, businesses, and local organizations stepping up to contribute. From bake sales and donation drives to online fundraising platforms, the community has embraced the opportunity to ensure the library’s future.
Organizers are hopeful that the campaign will not only meet its financial goals but also strengthen the sense of community and shared responsibility for this valuable local resource.
## Archyde Interview: Building strength, Building Community
**Archyde:** Welcome to Archyde Insights. Today, we’re talking about an astonishing display of camaraderie and dedication found in the most unexpected place – a migrant worker dormitory in Singapore.
Joining us is [Alex Reed Name], President of Singapore Polytechnic’s Strength Athletics Club, who recently visited PPT Lodge 1A and witnessed firsthand the powerlifting community thriving within its walls.
Welcome,[Alex Reed Name].
**[Alex Reed Name]:** Thank you for having me.
**Archyde:** Tell us, what brought you and your club to the dormitory?
**[Alex Reed name]:** We were planning an outreach program to share our knowledge of powerlifting with the community. We thought this would be a great opportunity to exchange ideas and maybe even learn something new ourselves.
**Archyde:** But what you encountered was something far more profound than you expected.
**[Alex Reed Name]:** Absolutely. We walked into a makeshift gym, filled with passion and determination. These workers had pooled thier savings to buy equipment, turning a common space into a haven for fitness.
**Archyde:** You mentioned a leader emerged within this community, a former wrestler named Parshotam. Can you tell us about him?
**[Alex Reed Name]:** Parshotam is an incredible individual. His background in mud-wrestling and his time on the Indian national wrestling team clearly shine through. He sees everyone in the dormitory as his students, eager to share his knowledge and motivate them. His dedication is truly inspiring.
**Archyde:** There was another resident who also played a key role in guiding the workers – Shanramohan Dhanamohan.
**[Alex Reed Name]:** That’s right. Shanramohan focuses more on workout routines and dietary guidance. He emphasizes discipline and resourcefulness, reminding everyone that even with limited options, achievement is possible.
**Archyde:** What struck you most about the migrant workers’ dedication to fitness, especially given their demanding work schedules and frequently enough challenging living conditions?
**[Alex Reed Name]:** It was their unwavering commitment, their sheer will to prioritize their health and well-being despite the obstacles. they view fitness as more than just physical strength; it’s a source of purpose, community, and mental fortitude.
**Archyde:** This story serves as a powerful reminder that strength comes in many forms, and that a sense of community can flourish even in the most unlikely of places.
**[Alex Reed Name]:** Absolutely. It was an humbling experience that taught us all a
valuable lesson about the human spirit and the power of shared passion.
