A⁢ Powerlifting Brotherhood in ‍the Dormitory

Students from Singapore Polytechnic’s Strength Athletics Club recently visited a migrant worker dormitory expecting to share⁣ their knowledge of powerlifting. What they encountered, however, was a thriving community of dedicated‍ lifters⁤ with notable‍ strength and camaraderie. At PPT Lodge 1A in Seletar North Link, a makeshift gym housed dumbbells,⁢ bench press equipment, and a passionate⁤ group of workers who had pooled their savings over the years to pursue their fitness goals.⁣ One of their leaders, Parshotam, a 35-year-old from⁣ punjab with a background in ‌mud-wrestling and⁣ a‌ former member of India’s national wrestling team, shared his expertise with ⁤his ‌dormmates. “I ‍wanted ‍to share my fitness knowledge with my brothers here,” Parshotam ⁢shared,‌ “I have⁣ many students‍ in ‍India, ‌and I see many of the guys here as my students⁤ also.” His fellow resident, Shanramohan Dhanamohan, also guided the workers with ⁤their workout routines and⁢ dietary ⁤choices. While limited to the meals provided at the dormitory, they emphasized the importance of versatility⁣ and discipline⁤ in‍ their fitness journey. The⁢ powerlifting workshop,‌ organized ⁣in collaboration with the Ministry of Manpower’s Ace Group, provided ⁤a‌ unique prospect for interaction between the students and the workers. K. Mahendhar Babu, a fire protection engineer‍ who has ⁤been ‌working in⁢ Singapore for ⁣12 years, ⁣appreciated the chance to connect with the students and break down stereotypes. ⁣

“This‌ session was a way to break stereotypes about‌ migrant workers‌ like‌ us,” Babu said. “In public, there is no opportunity for ‌us to ⁤interact with⁣ such ⁢students. I often wonder what their lifestyle is like, and if they would speak ⁢with us.

“During the workshop, it felt‍ like we were all the ⁢same, motivating one another to do our ⁢best.”

martin Koh, deputy ⁤chief ‌of MOM’s Ace Group, emphasized ⁢the importance of such events in fostering connection between migrant workers and the local community.

“the powerlifting event, led by Singapore Polytechnic students,is an example of a shared ‌passion‌ which brought the⁣ students and migrant ⁢workers together,”‍ Koh explained. “This year, we are heartened to see⁢ several youth-led initiatives such ⁤as a frisbee ‍tournament, a kitemaking workshop‌ and a tour to Gardens by the Bay between youths and migrant ‍workers. We hope more will step forward ‍to join ‍us in raising awareness and appreciation of our migrant workforce.”

The workshop highlighted not⁢ only the impressive strength and⁤ dedication of these ‌migrant workers but also the potential for meaningful connection and understanding across different communities within Singapore.

Local residents Rally ⁤to Support Neighborhood Library

in a display of heartwarming community spirit,⁢ local residents have banded ⁢together to ⁣support their beloved neighborhood ⁤library. Faced with funding ‍challenges, the library launched a fundraising campaign ⁣aimed at ensuring its continued operation‍ and vital role in the community.

The library’s meaning extends far beyond its shelves,⁤ acting as a hub for ‌education,‌ connection, and ⁣cultural enrichment. It’s a place ⁣where people of⁢ all ages come together to learn, explore, and engage with their ‌community.

“This library is more than just a building; ‍it’s the⁢ heart of our neighborhood,” said one resident. ‌

The fundraising campaign has garnered impressive support, with residents, businesses, and local ⁢organizations stepping⁣ up to contribute. From bake sales and donation drives to online ‍fundraising platforms, the community has ⁤embraced the opportunity to ⁢ensure the library’s future.

Organizers⁤ are hopeful that the campaign will not‌ only meet its ⁤financial goals but ⁣also strengthen⁣ the sense⁢ of⁢ community⁤ and shared ⁢responsibility for ⁣this valuable⁤ local resource.
