EVN, energy prices and social housing as focal points

St. Pölten (OTS) At a press conference this Tuesday in St. Pölten, SP club chairman Hannes Weninger gave an outlook on the state parliament session next Thursday, which provisionally includes 28 agenda items.

“The focus of the current moment is EVN,” said Weninger, who also emphasized: “In these days and weeks, Lower Austrians are receiving annual statements that amount to several thousand euros and at the same time regulations that many people don’t know how to do can settle. Furthermore, EVN has advertised an additional board position with a rumored ‘annual salary’ of 600,000 euros.” EVN is not a multinational company, but rather the state’s own energy supplier, which has the task of providing Lower Austrians with affordable electricity, affordable district heating and affordable gas according to the club chairman. EVN recorded record profits, which increased by 80 percent compared to the previous year. This money, minus any necessary investments, must be returned to the customers, he addressed another aspect.

With regard to the SP’s initiative on the topic of “living”, the club chairman explained. His group had submitted seven motions and, as expected, the VP rejected or postponed them, he said. The construction industry and the related construction industry are in a difficult situation and there is an urgent need for more properties to be built through subsidized housing, said the club chairman. The housing subsidy contribution, which is deducted from the salary of every Lower Austrian every month, must also be dedicated to a specific purpose and must not benefit the budget. Another application from the SP concerns the temporary reimbursement of costs by the state of Lower Austria for the energy certificate for “house builders,” said Weninger. Finally, the club chairman informed regarding the abolition of the Lower Austrian broadcasting tax, which will be decided tomorrow.
