Together for social justice in Austria and Europe!
Vienna (OTS/SPW) – With a result of 88.76 percent, Andreas Babler was confirmed as federal party chairman at the 46th regular federal party conference in Graz. The SPÖ Vienna regional party chairman and Vienna mayor Dr. Michael Ludwig and SPÖ Vienna state party secretary Barbara Novak, MA, warmly congratulate.
“Congratulations to Andreas Babler! He has the full support of the Vienna regional organization for the challenges ahead. We owe it to the Austrians to form a sustainable, strong counterweight to the federal government and to stand up for social justice,” said Vienna Mayor Dr. Michael Ludwig.
Because current inflation in Austria is 5.4 percent. This is far too high and, above all, significantly higher than in many other European countries such as Germany, France and Spain, which have slowed price developments through targeted measures. The Austrian federal government, however, did not intervene in the market. Accordingly, prices remain high and many people in Austria are coming under increasing pressure due to ongoing inflation – in terms of living costs as well as housing.
“The fight once morest inflation must therefore be our top priority. This week, as the Viennese Social Democrats, following the Vienna Energy Support Package plus, the 5-point plan for affordable housing and the NEW housing benefit, which will take effect from March 2024, we have taken another important step to relieve the burden on the people of Vienna: We are the indexed rent adjustments in municipal buildings in the next two years!” emphasizes Ludwig.
“In the two other social democratically governed federal states of Carinthia and Burgenland, the valorization of non-profit rents was also suspended and the price increase was capped at a maximum of 2% increase. This shows that it makes a difference who governs. “It’s important to prove this to the voters,” adds SPÖ Vienna state party secretary Barbara Novak, MA.
“Andreas Babler has the support of the Vienna regional organization for the challenges ahead and together, following this federal party conference, we must appear as a united, strong social democracy in the EU and National Council elections in 2024!
